Welcome to the studio
Her paintings are an outpouring of reflection and sensation; a painter's response to a lifetime of poetic, musical and literary memories.
Reading is a very important part of her work as an artist - her sketchbooks have more writing in them than sketches. The paintings are full of words. I suppose what she is trying to do is turn words into colours and shapes.
There is both an ephemeral and ethereal nature to her work. She is trying to capture a fleeting moment, an airiness, whether that be a mood of encircling gloom, one of frivolous optimism, or more likely, something in between.
What she does is not simple - this piece of blue, that piece of gold. These are things that she might wrestle with for months or even years; layer upon layer, working the colours until she finds a harmony and something revelatory
This is her art.
